Free mobility classes: Swindon’s gift from Walfinch home care

Free Seated Exercise Classes Offered by Walfinch Home Care in Swindon and Marlborough

Sarah Stanbrook, the owner of Walfinch, a home care company with branches in Swindon and Marlborough, is providing free seated exercise classes at two local venues. These classes are part of the Walfinch Thrive Clubs and are open to everyone, with the goal of promoting healthy movement and social interaction among attendees. According to Sarah, “Seated exercise is something that almost everyone can do, as it can be adjusted to your personal capabilities.” She emphasizes the benefits of these classes, stating, “We usually get a great group of people along, so anyone can come and enjoy a bit of healthy movement while making new friends.”

Class Details and Expansion Plans

The seated exercise classes are currently held on Tuesdays at Highworth Community Centre, starting at 10am, and on Wednesdays at Kingsdown Retirement Village, beginning at 12 noon. Both sessions are taught by Maisie Burrows, a local professional personal trainer. Sarah has been running these classes for several months and plans to introduce at least one more class in the new year. Additionally, she aims to bring in experts to provide free talks and advice on health and wellness issues, with a particular focus on osteoporosis. Sarah notes, “Half of women and 20% of men over 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis, but many people do not know they have this ‘silent disease.'” She encourages people to take The Great British Bone Check, an online tool created by the Royal Osteoporosis Society, to assess their osteoporosis risk in just three minutes.

Walfinch’s Approach to Home Care

Walfinch’s approach to home care prioritizes delivering care that improves people’s lives. Sarah explains, “At Walfinch, we believe that care should be a time to thrive, so every client receiving an hour or more of care is offered at least ten minutes of activity of their choice accompanied by their carer.” This approach can include attending one of their Thrive Clubs, going out for coffee, or engaging in activities such as crafts and games at home. As someone who has owned the Walfinch Swindon and Marlborough branch since spring 2024, Sarah understands the importance of combining care with activity, having previously worked at the Walfinch head office.
