Celebrating a Decade of Rugbytots: A Conversation with Alick and Karen
2022 marks a significant milestone for many Rugbytots franchisees, including Alick and Karen from Rugbytots SE Cheshire & Staffordshire Moorlands, who are celebrating their 10-year anniversary. We caught up with them to reflect on their journey and experiences with the franchise.
Hi guys! First of all, congratulations on your 10 year anniversary! How have you found running a Rugbytots franchise?
Alick and Karen shared that being part of the Rugbytots franchise has been a great experience, with the support of Head Office and other franchisees being a significant factor in their success. They noted that the past few years have brought unique challenges, including adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic and taking their classes online. However, the best part of their journey has been working with the children and parents, witnessing the positive impact of the program on young lives.
A Family Affair
Alick was looking for a career change after 20 years in the commercial removal industry, and Rugbytots provided an opportunity to work with his family. Karen, who was an early-year practitioner, joined Alick in the business within 12 months, and their three sons have also been involved in coaching. This family dynamic has been a key aspect of their success, allowing them to balance work and family life.
What made you decide to take on a Rugbytots franchise?
Alick’s background in coaching at the local rugby club and his desire for a career change led him to explore the Rugbytots franchise opportunity. The flexibility of the business and the potential to make a positive impact on children’s lives were significant factors in their decision.
Proudest Moments and Achievements
Alick and Karen have had numerous proud moments, including winning awards for their classes, which were voted for by parents. They have also made significant contributions to charity, raising over £12,000 through Rugbytots Try-Athlons, which has supported disabled and disadvantaged children in their local area. Additionally, they have organized trips for their Rugbytots to watch and participate in flag-waving events at Macclesfield Rugby Club and Sale Sharks.
Currently, they coach around 500 children in community classes and primary schools, working six days a week. Their passion for the program and the positive impact it has on children’s lives is evident in their dedication to their work.
