Understanding the Challenges of Funding Elderly Care in the North West
Planning for future care can be a daunting task, especially when faced with rising costs and limited options. A recent survey conducted by Promedica24 sheds light on the concerns of individuals in the North West regarding funding their own elderly care. The results highlight a sense of uncertainty and worry about the affordability and accessibility of care.
According to the survey, only 37% of people in the North West believe they will be able to self-fund their care, which is lower than the national average of 42%. In contrast, 42% expect to rely on support from their local authority, while 30% anticipate help from family members. These findings indicate a significant concern about the financial pressures surrounding care.
Financial Pressures and Care Options
The survey also found that 25% of people in the North West would be willing to sell their home to pay for care, and 38% would consider moving abroad to find more affordable options. These findings highlight the significant financial pressures surrounding care and the need for individuals to explore all available options.
There are also differences in how men and women plan to fund their care. Across the UK, 47% of men expect to self-fund their social care, compared to 37% of women. When it comes to selling their home to pay for care, 31% of men are open to this option, whereas 24% of women feel the same. These differences emphasize the importance of personalized planning and consideration of individual circumstances.

He explains, “Our research highlights a real worry about the affordability and accessibility of care in the North West.
