Building a Thriving Subway Franchise: Sue Pasco’s Story
Sue Pasco, a seasoned entrepreneur, has built a successful Subway franchise through hard work, dedication, and a passion for great service. With a background in nursing and real estate, Pasco’s journey with Subway began in 1997 when she and her husband saw an opportunity to bring the brand to the UK.
From Humble Beginnings to 18 Stores
Pasco’s first Subway store opened in Birmingham, and she has since grown her portfolio to 18 stores in and around the Bristol area, employing over 180 staff members. Her key to success? Location, location, location. Pasco emphasizes the importance of selecting a location that serves at least three key customer bases, ensuring a steady stream of customers.
A Diverse Store Portfolio
Pasco’s stores vary in size and format, from small high-street locations to large retail parks and even a Drive-Through. Her largest store, spanning over 2,000 square feet, is located at Imperial Park in Bristol. Pasco credits the Subway model’s adaptability for its success, allowing her to tailor each store to its unique space and enhance the guest experience.
Adapting to New Formats
Pasco has also had experience with the new Fresh Forward format, which she loves. She is currently remodeling her stores to incorporate this new design. In higher footfall stores, she recommends installing additional ovens to improve efficiency and speed of service.
Advice for New Franchisees
Pasco advises new franchisees to think like entrepreneurs, rather than employees. With the support and resources provided by Subway, she encourages them to be hands-on, get close to the business and customers, and grasp the opportunities the brand offers. By following the model and being proactive, franchisees can grow their store count and achieve success.
