Standing in Support of the Providers Unite Day of Action

A Pivotal Moment for Social Care: Time for Real Change

Today, on the 25th of February 2025, we stand at a critical crossroads for social care within our communities. Thousands of care and support providers, alongside care recipients, families, and advocates, are joining in a coordinated Day of Action centred in Westminster and in locations across the country. This collective effort aims to raise awareness about the importance of social care and the need for urgent reform.

As a leading home care provider, Bluebird Care proudly stands with Providers Unite to amplify the message that social care is an essential pillar of our society—one that must be properly valued, funded, and supported. The Providers Unite Picnic is more than just a date on the calendar; it is a call to action, a moment to recognise, affirm, and value the critical role of social care.

The Current State of Social Care

Millions of individuals, carers, service users, families, and communities rely on a system that has long been undervalued and underfunded. For years, we have been an integral part of the care and health sector, working alongside the NHS and local government to provide vital services that enable people to remain independent in their own homes. However, successive governments have failed to provide the investment needed to meet the growing demand for safe, high-quality care.

At Bluebird Care, we see first-hand the dedication of care workers, the impact of quality home care on people’s lives, and the challenges faced by both providers and families due to systemic underfunding. That is why we are lending our voice to the #ValueSocialCare campaign, which calls on the government to take immediate action to address the crisis in social care.

Demanding Change

We are calling on the government to:

  1. Recognise and Respect Social Care. Social care is not just a service—it is a lifeline that enables dignity and independence. It is time for policymakers to acknowledge its true value and treat it as the essential service it is.
  2. Ensure Fair Pay for Social Care Workers. With 1.6 million social care professionals delivering essential support, their dedication should be reflected in fair wages and better working conditions. These individuals are the backbone of our communities, yet their contributions often go unnoticed and unrewarded.
  3. Secure Sustainable Funding for Community Care and Support Services. Millions rely on these services every day, yet rising costs and funding challenges put access to quality care at risk. Without urgent and sustained investment, we jeopardise the well-being of vulnerable individuals across the country.

Bluebird Care stands with care workers, care providers, and families in urging the government to engage in meaningful dialogue about the impact of the October 2024 measures and implement reforms that will create a fairer, more sustainable future for social care. Now is the time to take real action. Invest in community care to protect lives and futures.

We encourage the public to stand with us and demand the change that social care deserves.
