Seven marathons in seven days for Alzheimer’s Society

Bluebird Care’s Head of Learning and Development Achieves Extraordinary Feat for Alzheimer’s Society

Nick Griffiths, the inspiring Head of Learning and Development at Bluebird Care, has successfully completed an astonishing challenge: running seven marathons in seven days to raise nearly £2,500 for Alzheimer’s Society. This remarkable achievement is part of Bluebird Care’s dedication to supporting Alzheimer’s Society, with a goal to raise an incredible £50,000 by September to help people living with dementia.

Nick’s journey began on August 17th, when he embarked on the first of seven 26.2-mile runs. Over the course of the week, he covered an astonishing 183.5 miles, weaving his routes around the beautiful North Portsmouth area, close to his home. One of his routes even involved hopping on a ferry to connect two parts of the coastal path, showcasing his determination and creativity.

A Demanding Training Schedule and a Remarkable Achievement

To take on this challenge, Nick dedicated himself to a demanding training schedule, running 80 miles a week in preparation. Balancing this with his role at Bluebird Care, raising two young daughters, and serving as a physical training instructor in the Army Reserve, Nick’s achievement is nothing short of remarkable. His final marathon brought him to Waterlooville, where he crossed the finish line at Bluebird Care’s head office, smiling despite the immense challenge and ready for a well-earned rest.

Reflecting on his journey, Nick said: “Not only has this been an incredible personal achievement, but I also feel remarkably proud to have contributed towards Bluebird Care’s milestone fundraising partnership and supported the endlessly important work of Alzheimer’s Society. It’s certainly been no easy feat, but to have done it for a cause that the entire Bluebird Care team and I believe in so wholeheartedly made it all worth it!”

Bluebird Care’s Commitment to Supporting Alzheimer’s Society

Nick’s marathon challenge is part of Bluebird Care’s wider effort to support Alzheimer’s Society. Since launching their partnership in May, Bluebird Care teams across the country have hosted skydives, tea parties, and other events in support of this vital cause. At their annual conference in September, Dame Arlene Phillips OBE, their Celebrity Champion, will join Chief Executive Jonathan Gardner to present the total donation to Alzheimer’s Society.

But their commitment doesn’t stop at fundraising. At Bluebird Care, they’re striving to lead the way in dementia home care. Alongside raising funds, they’ve pledged to equip their entire team of 10,000 with dementia training through the Dementia Friends initiative. This includes a structured programme of specialist training, ensuring they continue to provide expert, compassionate care for every family they support.

Nick’s dedication reminds us all of what’s possible when we pull together for a cause that matters. To everyone who has cheered Nick on, donated, or taken part in fundraising activities, you’re helping to make a real difference.
