Meet Favour B-Wilson, a 14-Year-Old Author Who Published a Book on Surviving Lockdown
At just 14 years old, Favour B-Wilson from Aberdeen has achieved what many aspiring writers can only dream of – publishing a non-fiction book titled ‘A Teenager in Lockdown – A Survivor’s Story’. This remarkable young author, who completed the Kumon English programme at the age of 10, has written a book that aims to inspire and help others navigate the challenges of the Covid-19 lockdown.
A Book Born Out of Lockdown Experience
Favour’s book is a personal account of her experiences during the lockdown, and it conveys key messages for younger children, teenagers, and adults alike. The book emphasizes the importance of finding new things to do as a family, appreciating the NHS, and adopting new habits to improve overall wellbeing. Favour’s parents, Wilson and Lydia, have received a positive response to the book, with many people attending the online book launch, including the former president of Nigeria, H.E Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan.
According to Favour, “Kumon English helped me to grasp and understand topic subjects with ease and master my reading and writing ability, so much so, it became a significant factor that inspired me to begin writing the non-fiction book titled ‘A Teenager In Lockdown – A Survivor’s Story’ during the first lockdown in Summer 2020.” Favour’s passion for writing and reading has been evident from a young age, and her love for English has been nurtured through her studies with Kumon.
The Kumon Connection
Favour’s journey with Kumon began when she was just five years old, and she has since developed a strong foundation in English. Her parents enrolled her in the Kumon Aberdeen Study Centre, where she has been able to develop her skills and confidence. Favour credits Kumon with helping her to understand topics before they were introduced in school, giving her a head start and enabling her to achieve great results in exams.
Aside from academic progression, Kumon has also helped Favour develop essential life skills, such as communication, confidence, and time management. She says, “Kumon helped me in many ways, from talking to my peers and younger students in the centre that unknowingly developed my communication and confidence. While completing my Kumon daily improved my time management skills.”
A Bright Future Ahead
Favour’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and commitment to her studies. With a love of English, strong academic skills, and self-confidence, she looks forward to continuing her education and pursuing a profession where she can help and support people. Favour’s parents are understandably proud of her achievements, and her book has received glowing reviews on Amazon.
