A Day in the Life of a Franchisee: Insights from Chris Jenner
Meet Chris Jenner, a franchisee in Kent who has been managing his business for over 10 years. In 2021, he took the leap and bought the business, and now he’s sharing his daily routine with us. From early morning tea-making to evening guitar practice, Chris gives us a glimpse into his busy life as a franchisee.
Morning Routine
Chris’s day starts at 6:00 am, with a quiet moment to himself to make his partner, Claire, a cup of tea. While enjoying his cereal, he does his daily “brain workout” with online word puzzles. By 7:30 am, he’s ready to head to the office, where he begins his day by responding to overnight emails and checking the bank account.
As the office staff arrive, Chris discusses any overnight issues or concerns from the previous night’s cleaning. With an experienced and motivated team behind him, most problems are quickly resolved, allowing Chris to focus on other aspects of the business.
A Busy Day
Between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm, Chris is often out meeting customers or providing quotes. He enjoys this part of the job, as it allows him to interact with different people and businesses. When he’s not out and about, he’s reviewing marketing strategies, analyzing performance against budget, or checking field staff rostering and performance.
Lunch is a quick affair, usually a sandwich at his desk while catching up on the news. The afternoons are filled with a variety of tasks, from booking van services to authorizing payments and checking stock levels.
Work-Life Balance
Chris prioritizes his work-life balance, trying to leave the office by 5:00 pm. On Thursdays, he finishes early at 3:30 pm to attend his guitar lesson. He’s always wanted to play an instrument, and last year he decided to take the plunge and book lessons. Practicing for 30 minutes each evening, Chris finds it a challenging but enjoyable hobby.
In the summer, Chris likes to spend time at his allotment, tending to his garden and keeping the weeds at bay. Even in the evenings, he’s often thinking about work, making notes and reminders for the next day.
