URBAN in the community: supporting FareShare Yorkshire

URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries Donates £1,024 to FareShare Yorkshire

URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries, a popular fresh burger restaurant in South Yorkshire, has made a generous donation of £1,024 to FareShare Yorkshire, a leading food redistribution charity in the county. This donation marks the fifth anniversary of the restaurant’s Rotherham location and demonstrates the company’s commitment to giving back to the community.

Supporting the Community

Between May 27th and June 2nd, £1 from every in-store sale was donated to FareShare Yorkshire, which works to redistribute surplus food to those in need. This initiative is part of URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries’ efforts to reduce food waste and support local communities. According to Mehmet Kent, Co-Founder of URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries, “At URBAN, we cook fresh to order, so there’s little to no waste. We’re proud to support FareShare Yorkshire, not just because they think the same way we do about food waste and food poverty, but because they’re a hugely impactful charity that represents the best of the Yorkshire community.”

FareShare Yorkshire’s Impact

FareShare Yorkshire processes around 2,000 tonnes of surplus food from over 500 food sites each year, supporting charities and community groups across the region with enough food for 4.4 million meals. The charity’s “Power of a Pound” campaign resonated with URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries, which was looking for ways to give back to the community. As Jonathan Williams, Head of Development at FareShare Yorkshire, noted, “We are proud to be partnering with URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries to help more people facing food insecurity to access the food they need. The generous support of URBAN will help us intercept more surplus food that would otherwise be wasted and redirect it to where it is needed most in local communities.”

A Commitment to Sustainability

As URBAN Fresh Burgers & Fries expands nationally, it is establishing community roots across its four existing locations in South Yorkshire. The partnership with FareShare Yorkshire underpins the company’s ethical and sustainable business model, which aims to support local communities while reducing food waste.
