Introduction to The Pizza Room
The story of The Pizza Room begins with a personal journey, one that involves a family’s passion for food and their desire to create a welcoming space for their community. As the owners, Awet and their partner, recall, it all started with the conception of their little boy, Ulysses, in November 2012. At the time, they were running a small food stall in Camden Town, but they soon realized that this lifestyle wouldn’t be suitable for their growing family.
They needed a change, something that would allow them to spend quality time with their child while still pursuing their passion for food. The idea of opening a coffee shop in their local community in Bow seemed like the perfect solution. With no other coffee shops in the area, they saw an opportunity to create a hub where people could gather and enjoy a great cup of coffee.
The Early Days
The coffee shop quickly took off, with the owners working tirelessly from 6 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week. Although it was challenging, the business was successful, and they were able to employ a few staff members to help with the workload. However, as their son Ulysses grew, they began to think about expanding their business and creating a space where they could serve more than just coffee.
In 2014, they spotted an opportunity to take over a neighboring shop, which would eventually become their first The Pizza Room location. Despite some initial reservations from friends and family, who thought they should stick to what they knew and open another coffee shop, the owners were determined to pursue their vision.
The Birth of The Pizza Room
The decision to open a pizzeria was not taken lightly. The owners chose to focus on artisan pizza, which was missing from the local scene, and they were driven by their own desire for a good pizza in the neighborhood. The Pizza Room was born, and it quickly gained a loyal following.
However, the journey was not without its challenges. The owners faced numerous problems, including financial struggles and the stress of balancing work and family life. In fact, the pressure took a toll on their health, with one of the owners developing an autoimmune condition. Nevertheless, they persevered, driven by their passion for their business and their community.
From Humble Beginnings to Success
Today, The Pizza Room is a thriving business, with a loyal customer base and a reputation for serving high-quality, artisan pizza. The owners’ determination and hard work have paid off, and they continue to be involved in their community, creating a welcoming space for friends and family to gather.
