Subway Partners with Women’s Professional Leagues Limited to Support Women’s Football

Subway, one of the world’s largest restaurant brands, has announced a multi-year partnership with the Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) to become the Official Title Partner of the Women’s League Cup in the UK. This partnership marks a significant step forward in Subway’s “Fresh Moves” initiative, which aims to promote active lifestyles and celebrate diversity of movement.

The competition will be renamed the Subway Women’s League Cup from this season, ensuring the continued growth of women’s football and driving investment into the sport. This partnership aligns with Subway’s mission to make sport more inclusive and accessible in the UK, and supports the company’s work in communities across the country to champion active lifestyles and increase accessibility to the sport.

Expanding the “Fresh Moves” Initiative

Subway’s “Fresh Moves” initiative was launched in early 2024, with the goal of promoting physical activity through partnerships with sports organisations on a growth journey. The initiative has already partnered with organisations such as GB Basketball, Breaking GB, and Skateboard GB, and the partnership with WPLL marks a significant expansion into football. According to Kirstey Elston, EMEA Brand & UK & Ireland Marketing Director at Subway, “The partnership with WPLL represents a significant step forward in our Fresh Moves initiative. By partnering with the Women’s League Cup, we’re not just investing in a well-established domestic competition, we’re investing in the future of women’s football.”

Nikki Doucet, CEO of WPLL, also expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating “We are thrilled that Subway have come on board as Title Partner for the Women’s League Cup as we continue on our journey to build the most distinctive, competitive and entertaining women’s football club cup competition in the world. We need partners like Subway who believe in our vision to transform the game and are committed to developing opportunities both on and off the pitch for women in football.”

A Significant Step Forward for Women’s Football

The partnership between Subway and WPLL is a significant step forward for women’s football, and demonstrates the growing investment and support for the sport in the UK. The Subway Women’s League Cup will continue to provide a platform for women’s football to grow and develop, and the partnership will help to increase accessibility and inclusivity in the sport.
