Unleashing a Young Writer’s Potential: Caleb’s Kumon Success Story
Ten-year-old Caleb’s journey with Kumon began earlier this summer, when he joined the Kumon Elstree Study Centre to enhance his school studies and foster his love for reading. His parents, Elsa and Flavio, were eager to nurture Caleb’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, having already seen the benefits of Kumon with their older son. After an assessment meeting with Kumon Instructor Hedy, Caleb enrolled in both the Kumon Maths and English Study Programmes.
Just six months into the programme, Caleb has made remarkable progress, developing a newfound passion for writing and even penning two novels. He is currently working on his third book and aspires to publish all of them. Caleb’s love for reading has also expanded, with his latest novel being ‘Shadow’ by Michael Morpurgo, and he enjoys reading Alex Rider books as well. His parents and Instructor Hedy are thrilled with his progress and enthusiasm for writing.
A Strong Foundation for Learning
Caleb’s mother, Elsa, reflected on his progress, saying, “I couldn’t be prouder of Caleb’s achievements. Since joining Kumon, he has established a consistent daily study routine, completing his Kumon work independently after school. It’s wonderful to see Caleb’s love for learning flourish with Kumon. He looks forward to attending the centre every Wednesday and is eager to learn and excel through the programmes.” Elsa attributes Caleb’s success to the structured approach of the Kumon programmes, which provide clear worksheets and examples that help students get started.
Caleb’s experience with Kumon has not only improved his academic skills but also boosted his confidence. He started the programmes at his own pace and has progressed steadily, developing a strong foundation for learning. Through daily Kumon study, Caleb has practised his skills and learned to take ownership of his learning, which has enabled him to make significant progress in a short time.
Discovering a New Talent
Caleb shared his experience with Kumon, saying, “Kumon study provides me with plenty of practice, and I complete 15 minutes of English and 10 minutes of maths after school every day. I enjoy the column method in maths and the reading aspects of the English programme. The Kumon English Programme has helped me develop my writing skills, including grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.” Caleb’s newfound love for writing has led him to write two novels, with a third one in progress.
Elsa added, “Caleb has made exceptional progress in his schoolwork, recently receiving a ‘star of the week’ award for his excellent writing ability and use of vocabulary in his English work. His English teacher has read his first book and was impressed, and the Head of English at school has invited Caleb to read his book to other year groups in assembly.” Caleb’s success is a testament to the effectiveness of the Kumon programmes in developing important lifelong study skills.
A Supportive Learning Environment
Kumon Instructor Hedy is proud of Caleb’s achievements, saying, “I realised that Caleb was a special student after he joined the centre; he was eager to learn and progress quickly. It’s lovely to see that he wants to do well. I remember when Caleb completed his second achievement test, there was a significant improvement in his levels, and I can only imagine the progress he will make when he starts working above his school year level.” Hedy’s guidance and support have been instrumental in Caleb’s success, and she will continue to encourage and guide him as he progresses through the programmes.
Elsa commented, “Hedy’s ongoing support and guidance have enabled Caleb to progress as much as he has today and become a prolific writer.” The collaborative approach between Kumon Instructors, students, and parents ensures that students receive the support they need to achieve their maximum potential.
