Unlocking Mathematical Potential: Rebecca’s Journey with Kumon

Rebecca, a Completer of the Kumon Maths Programme from the Kumon Corby Study Centre, is a shining example of how Kumon’s approach can nurture and maximize students’ potential, enabling them to achieve great things. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, dedication, and the right support. Initially, Rebecca struggled with maths, often becoming disheartened when faced with challenges. However, upon joining the Kumon programme, she began to experience a significant shift in her attitude and confidence.

Rebecca fondly recalls her early days with Kumon, where she started with manageable amounts of work, completing 10 pages of addition and multiplication problems with excitement. This spark of enthusiasm, combined with the guidance of her Instructor, Kim, ignited her passion for maths. As she progressed through the programme, Rebecca no longer feared difficult equations; instead, she looked forward to the challenge, enjoying the process of learning and overcoming obstacles.

Academic Success and Recognition

Rebecca’s academic success was not only evident in her progress within the Kumon Maths Programme but also in her GCSE and AS level results. She attributes her achievements to the help she received from Kumon, which improved her maths ability significantly. Rebecca received a grade 9 in GCSE Maths and an ‘A’ in AS level maths, and she is currently pursuing A level Maths, Further Maths, and Physics. Her success is a direct result of the foundation built through Kumon, which had already introduced her to many of the topics taught at the A level.

Kumon’s recognition awards and certificates also played a significant role in motivating Rebecca. She received multiple Advanced Student Honour Roll awards for progressing to advanced study levels, often one, two, or three years above her equivalent school grade level. These awards helped her realize her potential and feel positive about her maths knowledge, further bolstering her confidence.

The Role of Instructor Support

Rebecca emphasizes the crucial role her Instructor, Kim, played in her academic success. Kim’s calm and resilient approach to helping Rebecca with tricky maths questions was invaluable. From explaining methods and steps to working through long, difficult questions in Kumon Level O, Kim’s support was always available. Rebecca found that as she progressed to higher levels, her parents, though supportive, were not equipped to help her with the more complex maths questions, making Kim’s guidance even more critical.

Rebecca’s mother, Nicky, also witnessed significant improvements in her daughter’s work and a notable increase in her self-discipline and enjoyment of maths. Impressed by the positive impact Kumon had on Rebecca, Nicky decided to enroll her other children in the programme as well, recognizing the benefits it could bring to their academic development.

A Future in Maths

Rebecca’s journey with Kumon has not only equipped her with a strong foundation in maths but has also instilled in her a love for the subject. She now aspires to pursue a maths degree and is considering a career in finance, a path she believes would not have been possible without the confidence and ability Kumon has given her.
